Skull Day celebrations in Bolivia

New7Wonders of Nature

In the last week of voting, organizers New7Wonders of Nature announced the 10 finalists who received the most votes from the global community. According to the alphabet, they are: Dead Sea or the Dead Sea (Palestine, Jordan, Israel), Grand Canyon (USA), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Jeita Grotto (Lebanon), Jeju Island (South Korea, Komodo Island (Indonesia), Puerto Princesa Underground River (Philippines), Sundarbans (Bangladesh, India), and Vesuvius (Italy). www.vivanews.com

Jeju Island is Korea's largest island that lies south of the Korean Peninsula. This island is the only special autonomous province in South Korea.

Komodo National Park is located between the province of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia is composed of three large islands of Komodo, Rinca, and Padar Island and several smaller islands.


Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast is comprised of approximately 3,000 reefs and 900 islands, which stretches along 2600 km.

Grand Canyon is a gorge, steep cliffs, which are formed by the Colorado River, in northern Arizona where Native American Tribes build a residence in the walls of this canyon.

Dead Sea which lies on the border between Jordan and the western part of Palestine has the lowest point on earth at 1,300 ft (400m) below sea level.

Ha Long bay in northern Vietnam has 1969 limestone islands that rise spectacularly from the sea.

Jeita Grotto, caves and underground rivers in Lebanon along nearly 9 miles was used as a supply of fresh drinking water for more than one million Lebanese people.


Mount Vesuvius is the only active volcano in mainland Europe which lies to the east of Naples, Italy. This volcanic eruption in 79 destroyed Pompeii.

Sundarbans National Park in India which is the largest estuarine mangrove forest in the world is also a place of tiger conservation and plant reserves.

Underground River National Park Puerto Princessa is located approximately 50 kilometers from the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines.
