The Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri is a famous Hindu templeand and located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India.With its roaring 65 mt high spire, the temple is visible even from the countryside. Decorated with four gates on each side, the temple also has a 16 sided monolithic pillar measuring 11 meters in height, Arunastambh; architectural zenith with exquisite carvings which was brought here from Konark in the 18th century.
The name Jagannath is a combination of the Sanskrit words Jagat (Universe) nath(lord of). And puri also Known As Nilachal, Nilagiri, Niladri and Purushottama dham.Puri offers a number of colourful fairs and festivals such as Chandan Yatra, Snana Yatra (Bath festival), Anavasara festival and Nava- Kalevara and the famous for its annual Rath Yatra(Chariot Festival).The temple is sacred to the Vaishnava traditions and saint Ramananda who was closely associated with the temple.
